termite control protection methods you can rely on
termite control-termite barrier system by soil injection
Soil treatments involve the application of liquid termiticides that ensure thorough coverage of the soil. By injecting this treatment into the soil, a protective barrier is created around the structure, effectively reducing termite populations and providing long-term protection. This is one of the most widely used methods and can be combined with bait systems or wood treatments for enhanced results.
Termites can easily build tubes leading to your home's foundation and footings (without needing cracks or voids in the concrete). Soil injection treatments are designed to create a protective barrier around the structure. These treatments should be applied on both sides of the foundation footing or along the outside of the foundation, as well as by drilling and treating the slab floor. This ensures the termiticide is placed on both sides of the footing, sometimes reaching considerable depths. Termites primarily feed on dead wood materials, such as tree stumps or cardboard. They are constantly creating exploratory tunnels in search of new food sources. Rather than staying at a single site, termites dig numerous foraging tunnels and are highly effective at locating wood within their foraging territory. When termites find a suitable food source, they begin feeding on the wood, hollowing out chambers within it. Larger wood items, like tree stumps or dead trees, provide abundant food for a colony and often become nesting and reproductive sites for termites. |
pre-construction soil poisoning
Prior to the laying of your foundations, the ground beneath your future home needs to be treated for subterranean termites. The soil poisoning process involves the drilling of holes – one meter apart – around the perimeter of the foundations. Termiticides are then pumped into the soil in order to saturate the ground. It’s crucial that this is done by a licensed pest control company like Technologist Pest Control that’s registered with the Fertilizers and Pesticides Authority. This will ensure that the treatment is done thoroughly, is effectively carried out and that chemicals that are non-toxic to humans and animals are used.
Many building contractors who attempt to conduct soil poisoning themselves use banned chemicals which are incredibly toxic!
Frighteningly, chemicals like DDT and Chlordane are still being used by builders. These toxic substances, banned due to their hazardous nature, can cause cancer, leukemia, neurological disorders and chronic respiratory problems. Even if a contractor uses a termiticide that’s registered with the Fertilizers and Pesticide Authority, they do not follow the recommended dilution and application rates. Many use much more or lesser than the recommended amount. It’s therefore essential that you make use of a registered licensed pest control service like Technologist Pest Control in order to avoid putting the health of your family and neighbours at risk.

What are Termite Baits?
Termite baits consist of paper, cardboard, or other acceptable termite food, combined with a slow-acting substance lethal to termites. The bait must be good enough to compete with the presence of competing tree roots, stumps, woodpiles and structural wood. If the bait kills too quickly, sick or dead termites may accumulate in the vicinity of the bait stations, increasing the chance of avoidance by other termites in the area. Delayed-action or slow-acting bait also enhances transmission of the lethal agent to other termites, including those that never fed on the bait. Some bait stations are installed below ground out in the yard, and others are positioned within the structure in the vicinity of active termite mud tubes or feeding sites. Below-ground stations typically contain untreated wood until termite activity is detected inside the stations. |
The Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System is a subterranean termite pest control product developed and manufactured by Dow Agro Sciences.
It was introduced in 1995 as a termite baiting system and an alternative to liquid termiticide soil barriers. |
Termite baiting with Exterra is a straightforward and simple multi-step process. The first step is the installation of stations in the ground at regular intervals around the structure. The stations are inspected at periodic intervals for the presence of termite activity in the station.

Xterm™ Termite Baiting system works with the understanding of termites behaviour. This system lures subterranean termites into consuming and sharing the “Best” food source for the whole colony.
